About Banu Yakubun Bauchi Forum

A family-based, not-for-profit established to preserve the heritage, promote unity, and advance the welfare of the descendants of Mallam Yakubun Bauchi.

Our Heritage

The Banu Yakubun Bauchi Development Forum is a family-based, not-for-profit and established to preserve the heritage, promote the unity and advance the welfare and development of the descendants of Mallam Yakubun Bauchi , while positively extending its charity to the larger society in many sectors of human endeavor.

Our story begins with Mallam Yakubun Bauchi , the founding ancestor of the House of Mallam Yakubun Bauchi and an important figure in the history of Bauchi. According to the family record, Mallam Yakubun Bauchi , who lived until 1845, was survived by 22 sons, whose names have been preserved in the family genealogy.

Of these 22 sons, the family record identifies 7 principal branches whose descendants were still living at the time the original family account was documented. The 7 sons of Mallam Yakubun Bauchi are as follows:

  1. Abdullahi
  2. Ibrahimu
  3. Halilu
  4. Mahmudu
  5. Muhammadu Ghani
  6. Mustapha Babba
  7. Salmanu

These branches represent lines of descent from the same founding ancestor. Over successive generations, their descendants have spread across different communities and have contributed to society through traditional leadership, Islamic scholarship, public service, education, business, professional careers, military service and other fields of endeavour.

The genealogical record also traces members of the family who subsequently occupied the throne of the Bauchi Emirate. The history of the emirship therefore forms an important part of the heritage of the House of Mallam Yakubun Bauchi , but it represents only one aspect of a much larger family history.

One Ancestry, Many Branches, One Family

The House of Mallam Yakubun Bauchi is a family of many branches but one ancestry.

The passage of generations has naturally produced numerous family lines, different experiences and diverse contributions. Yet the descendants (both males and females) remain connected by their common ancestry.

Our understanding of this heritage is founded on the principle that family membership derives from descent, not from the possession of traditional office. The historical occupation of the emirship by members of particular branches does not diminish the identity or significance of the other branches of the family.

Thus, whether one's lineage is traced through Ibrahim, Abdullahi, Halilu, Muhammadu-Ghani, Mahmudu, Salmanu or Mustapha-Babba, each represents a branch of the wider House of Mallam Yakubun Bauchi .

One ancestor. Many branches. One family.

Our Purpose

The Banu Yakubun Bauchi Development Forum was established to transform this shared heritage into a platform for unity, mutual support, economic development and service to the society.

We believe that preserving a family is not limited to recording names and genealogies. It also means strengthening relationships among generations, supporting members in times of need, preserving our history and creating opportunities through which younger generations can thrive.

The Forum therefore seeks to bring members together irrespective of age, gender or other personal differences, while promoting peace, love, cooperation and mutual respect.

Our Constitution formally establishes the Forum as a not-for-profit.

Our Membership

The Banu Yakubun Bauchi Development Forum is an incorporated entity under Nigerian law. It was duly registered by the Federal Government of Nigeria as an incorporated trustee organization with RC No. 8544048, thereby acquiring full legal personality with perpetual succession. The forum therefore is there to partner with any other entity worldwide for the attainment of its objectives of charity to the larger society in the area of health, education, environment and cultural advancement.

Membership of the Forum is broad and inclusive. In accordance with the Forum's constitutional framework, membership is open to persons who share its vision, regardless of age, gender or political affiliation, subject to the applicable registration requirements.

In the context of the family heritage, the Forum recognizes the importance of documenting both male and female descendants of Mallam Yakubun Bauchi and preserving their connections to the wider family tree. Most importantly the Forum attaches greatest importance to the principle of inclusivity which makes it mandatory to carry along, all members of the Forum who acquire their membership through their mothers.

Accordingly, a person established through reliable family evidence to be a biological descendant of Mallam Yakubun Bauchi —whether the connection is traced through the maternal or paternal line—is regarded within the Forum's family-development vision as part of the wider Banu Yakubun Bauchi family.

The Forum's purpose is therefore not to create divisions among branches, but to bring together the descendants of a common ancestor and strengthen their shared identity.

Our Mission

Our mission is to preserve the heritage of Banu Yakubun Bauchi, promote unity among its members and use the collective strength of the family to support social, educational, economic and humanitarian development.

We seek to:

  • preserve and document the genealogy and history of the House of Mallam Yakubun Bauchi ;
  • promote unity, love, peaceful coexistence and mutual support among family members;
  • protect and advance the welfare of members;
  • support vulnerable members and disadvantaged persons;
  • promote education, scholarships, literacy and access to educational resources;
  • empower young people, women, widows, persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups within and outside the family;
  • support skills acquisition, vocational training and sustainable livelihoods;
  • contribute to healthcare initiatives and medical assistance to communities;
  • promote agriculture and community development;
  • support humanitarian interventions, including assistance to orphans, widows, internally displaced persons and other vulnerable groups;
  • promote environmental awareness and sustainable development; and
  • collaborate with government agencies, non-governmental organisations, donors and other partners in advancing these objectives.

These areas of intervention are expressly reflected in the Forum's constitutional objectives.

Our Commitment to Community

Although our identity is rooted in the House of Mallam Yakubun Bauchi , our responsibility extends beyond the family.

The Forum's Constitution provides for humanitarian assistance to orphans, widows, persons with disabilities, indigent persons and other vulnerable groups. It also provides for educational support, scholarships, skills development, healthcare assistance, agricultural development and community-based programs.

We therefore view family development and community development as complementary responsibilities.

A stronger family can contribute more effectively to society, while a stronger and more peaceful community creates a better environment for present and future generations.

Preserving Our History

One of our important responsibilities is to ensure that the history and genealogy of the House of Mallam Yakubun Bauchi are not lost with the passage of time.

Family histories can become fragmented as generations move across communities and countries. Names, relationships and stories can gradually disappear from collective memory unless they are deliberately documented and preserved.

The Forum therefore encourages descendants to contribute authenticated information concerning their parents, grandparents and earlier ancestors. Through this process, the existing family genealogy can continue to grow and connect present generations with those who came before them.

Our objective is not merely to record the past, but to provide future generations with a clear understanding of where they come from, how they are connected and the heritage they share.

A Family Looking to the Future

The heritage of Banu Yakubun Bauchi is not confined to the achievements of previous generations. It continues through the lives, contributions and aspirations of today's descendants.

Our members are found in different professions, communities and generations. Some serve in public institutions. Others are engaged in business, education, scholarship, agriculture, the military, traditional institutions and various professional fields.

The Forum seeks to create a platform through which these diverse talents and experiences can be connected for the common good.

We believe that the strength of the House of Mallam Yakubun Bauchi lies not only in its history, but also in the potential of its people.

Our Values

Our work is guided by:

  • Unity — recognizing our common ancestry and strengthening relationships among all branches and generations.
  • Heritage — preserving the history, genealogy, traditions and identity of Banu Yakubun Bauchi.
  • Service — using our collective resources and capabilities to serve members and the wider community.
  • Compassion — supporting people facing poverty, vulnerability, disability, displacement or other difficulties.
  • Education — investing in knowledge, skills and opportunities for present and future generations.
  • Integrity — promoting responsible stewardship, accountability and proper management of the Forum's resources.

Our Vision

We envision a united, documented, prosperous and forward-looking Banu Yakubun Bauchi family in which every generation understands its heritage, members support one another, and the collective strength of the family contributes meaningfully to the development of society.

From Mallam Yakubun Bauchi and his 22 sons came generations of descendants whose stories continue to form part of the history of Bauchi.

Our responsibility today is to preserve that heritage, strengthen the bonds among its branches and build a legacy worthy of those who will come after us.

One ancestor. Many branches. One family. A shared heritage. A common future.
